In the sport and outdoor activity of hunting, most of the casualties are on the animal side. However, hunters also have their check out time, even some of the most well known in the history of this activity. A couple of them are J. J. Capen ‘Grizzly’ Adams was one of the most famous individuals who saw the mountain as his second home. He is also widely known as a trainer of grizzly bears, which is where his nickname came from. Grizzly Adams was born in October 1812 and he died in 1860. He was born in Massachusetts and spent most years of his life in the mountain ranges of the US west. He enjoyed being surrounded by animals and sometimes he was even capturing them for zoos. The mountains were the refuge of Adams who had gone through several disappointments in life and had left his children and wife behind. His companion, Ben, was also a famous bear that died in a zoo opened by Adams himself.
William Cody, nicknamed Buffalo Bill, was born in Iowa in 1846. He had moved to Kansas in 1854 and lived there for the rest of his life. While still young he worked as an express messenger and in the American Civil War he had served as a scout. He had become well known for killing buffaloes under a contract for the company supplying the food for those building the Union pacific Railroad. It is said that he had killed over 4,000 buffaloes in 17 months, although many believe that the number was an exaggeration.
Another legendary American hunter was Daniel Boone, who became an icon and a legend.
