The Columbiana County Chapter of Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (CHFHFH) sent out a reminder to all hunters to donate some of their deer meat to either the Community Action Agency or the County Department of the Job and Family Services. The meat collected would be sent to food pantries to feed the hungry in the community. The deer had to be processed at a meat processing plant that had been approved by the Ohio Department of Agriculture. However, hunters were not responsible for the processing fee themselves. Instead, this fee was paid by the Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the FHFH.

Approved meat processors in Columbiana County included Horst Packing, the Leetonia IGA, and Winona Frozen Foods. Horst Packing accepted deer meat from eight a.m. to three p.m. during the week days and from eight a.m. to nine a.m. on Saturdays. The Leetonia IGA accepted meat from seven a.m. to nine p.m. during the week, from eight a.m. to nine p.m. on Saturdays, and from nine a.m. to five p.m. on Sundays. Finally, Winona Frozen Foods accepted meat from Tuesday through Friday from nine a.m. to five p.m. and Saturday from eight a.m. to three p.m.

The project was taken to completion with excellent results. 873 households in Columbiana County were serviced with deer meat. This equaled 2,104 individuals being served and 1,679 packs of meat being handed out.The project was made possible thanks to collaboration from the Columbiana Federation of Conservation Clubs, the Columbiana County Department of Job and Family Services, the Community Action Agency, and the Northeast Chapter of Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry. The idea of collecting deer meat from hunters in order to feed the hungry came about due to high levels of unemployment in the county and general poor economic status in the region. Thus, the two agencies joined forces and request help from the County Federation of Conservation Clubs in order to start this charitable program.
