Bench rest shooting is a shooting competition and sport altogether in which very accurate and precise rifles are used to shot at paper targets. The shooter must be in a sitting position from a rest or bench and this is where the name of the sport has come from.

Individuals who practice this sport are usually detail-oriented and they will most likely be trying to further the accuracy and the precision of the rifle through experimentation. Most of the rifles used in this sport are custom made and many of the bench rest shooters do their own gunsmithing as well.
